Traditions and Folklore in Friesland
“Ringrijden” is a typical Frisian piece of folklore: a couple in traditional costume (dating from the early 19th century) ride in a “sjees”, a two-wheeled carriage pulled by a thoroughbred black Frisian horse in the town of Joure; the woman tries to collect mounted rings with a pointed wooden stick while riding past at a steady trot.
